Another weekend full of success
We saw more success for the club in a weekend where fencers were competing at the British National Championships (individuals and teams) and the Veterans 4 Nations team event.
British National Championships Individuals
Only two fencers entered the individual event on the Saturday, making their way to Sheffield to compete.
Men’s Foil (50 entries)
After the poules Christopher was seeded 28th, finishing V3D3 in a tough competition. In the last 64 he drew Ben Priestley from Team Melia, who he went on to beat 15-11 to make the last 32. His next opponent was British team member Ben Peggs, who he lost to 15-3.
Christopher Mollard – last 32
Women’s Foil (16 entries)
Oxana was in a slightly more difficult position, losing all 7 of her first round matches and being seeded 15th. However, in the last 16 she pulled out a great performance to beat the #2 seed and British Number 6 15-13 to make the quarter finals. There she drew Katie Smith from Edinburgh fencing club and went on to lose 15-3.
Mikhaleva – quarter finals (8th)
British National Championships Team Event

In the poules the Huscarls lost 42-29 to Oxford Blue, beat A&C sword B 45 – 32 and lost to ZFW A 45-10 to have a seeding of 8th and make the cut. The Fyrd did a fantastic job in the poules, winning 2 of their three matches 45-38 against Salle Holyrood B and 45-22 against Lazlo’s but losing 44-37 in a hard fought match against ZFW B. They were seeded 5th. The Thingmen didn’t have the best of starts, losing 45-26 to Edinburgh Fencing Club and 44-28 against Academy and beating A&C Sword 45-39 to be seeded 3rd.
In the quarter finals matches the Huscarls once again came up against ZFW A, this time losing 45-11 whilst the Fyrd drew Salle Boston and lost 45-26. The Thingmen however put on a fantastic performance to beat Academy 44-43 in a priority minute in the semi finals. In the final they came up against Edinburgh once more and, despite a great performance they lost.
